4th Grade Fieldtip to the HIGH Museum of Art

4th grade students had an amazing time traveling to the HIGH Museum of art in Atlanta. They saw the "Picasso to Warhol" exhibit which included many famous artworks! Here are some fabulous pictures of the students really enjoying themselves! Thank you to all the money raised during the art show, proceeds helped to cover the cost of the trip!

This project was also used for the art show, collage houses inspired by the bright colors of Georgia Artist Beverly Buchanan. Students used fun papers, oil pastels and other items to make their fabulous houses.

Kindergarten Texture Sculpture Bugs

Kindergarten used a variety of texture creating technique to create their giant bugs. Students discussed what makes a piece of art 3d and a sculpture and how to manipulate their paper in the sculpture works. Students used materials such as textured painted paper, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, sandpaper, and clear lamination to create these symmetrical fun bugs

4th grade Middle Eastern Metal Radial Designs

Fourth grade students started their sculpture unit by working with a heavy grade foil. The resisted and relieved the foil into beautiful radial designs. The students were inspired by artist Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian from Iran and middle eastern radial designs.

Third grade M.C. Escher Impossible Houses

We are very lucky to have Artome sponsor our Artshow this year. They will be framing and matting each piece of student artwork for us. Each frame is black and is double matted. They really make the artwork standout!!

If you would like to purchase the artwork in the frame, the cost is $30.00. Part of the money raised from the art show goes to the Art Department. Monies raised from last years show is helping the 4th grade students attending the HIGH Museum of Art this year for their field trip in December. Our Art department was able to donate $1000.00 to save on busing cost for the trip. Other monies raised have gone to student incentives, art resources, sink for the outdoor art room, supplies.

The night isn't about raising money for CWE art, the night is about celebrating the best young artists of CWE. Please come out and join us for the night!!

Hot dogs and Cool Cats 1st grade

First grade students made wonderful cats and dogs inspired by the artist Laurel Burch. We used a glue resist to create patterns, then chalk pastel for our warm and cool color combination. Students then created a great frame around each animal with the opposite color scheme used.

Negative and Positive Space was a huge topic for our art students in 2nd grade, students created tints and shades in their negative space. They used black silhouettes with a spooky vibe for their positive spaces.

5th grade students created beautiful color wheels by learning how mix colors. Students focused on mastering how to create intermediate colors. Students also had to show the complementary color scheme by adding the opposite color on their design.

4th grade Wayne Thiebaud Form Desserts

4th grade studied the delicious POP Art of Wayne Thiebaud. Students learned to draw form from shape, then paint with tints and shades. Students realized to make something realistic and show form, they needed a light source to create a shadow. We also discussed composition, repeating and spacing that he used in his artworks.

3rd Grade Jasper Johns Initals and Numbers

Third grade students created Jasper Johns POP ART paintings. We looked at the repeating numbers and letters. We liked how he took ordinary images and made them interesting. The students used their initials and their favorite numbers to create their artwork. Each letter and number represents a different color family: primary, secondary, neutral, warm, cool, and complementary.

2nd Grade Lois Ehlert Collages

2nd Grade students looked at the author and illustrator Lois Ehlert. She created collages for her famous books! The students created their own warm and cool color paper, then the students used that paper to create their charming bird collages. Each bird is unique and lives in a habitat.

First grade students learned about the illustrator and author Eric Carle. He loved to create his own paper with paint and texture, then use it for collages. The students added various papers, pattern and oil pastel bugs to finish their color wheel collages.

Kindergarten Students learned all about Winslow Homer. We discovered that Winslow loved to paint oceans and boats. We looked at the water to find lines and in the sail boats we found geometric shapes. The students used the primary colors for their boats and secondary color oil pastel lines for details.

4th grade Kente Clothe Inspired Reductive Prints

Students in 4th grade really focused on the repetition of Kente Clothe, pattern, and radial symmetry. Students designed wonderful images and then repeated to create four equal images. These images where first printed with a single color, students then went back and reduced the plate to add contrast, and then printed with a second color. Printing methods were also learned in this activity.

1st grade Clay PInch Pot Diyas

First Graders completed Pinch Pot Diyas. A diya is a vessel that holds oil and a wick for the Indian Celebration Diwali. Diwali is called the festival of lights, and is celebrated in October or November. Students used the pinching technique to form their Diyas, and then glazed them.

Students buy pumpkins ( smaller than your head) use home materials: paint, cotton balls, fabrics, markers: to come up with a fabulous disquise for your pumpkins. This art contest is optional. It will start the week of Oct. 4th and will end the 22ND of October. 10Winners will be picked t who have the most creative disquised pumpkins and will have a chick-fil-A lunch with Mrs. Elder and myself the following week. Pumpkins will be displayed at school . If some materials need help to be supplied, you can see me in the art room for assistance!

We are currently working on SCULTURE ART!! Our artists are working on the big ideas of FORM, 3D, SCULPTURE, AND INSTALLATION.

If you have any recycable materials such as egg cartons, small food foods, plastic containers, toliet paper rolls, etc- please send them into ART to make beautiful recycled sculptures!

On March 9, 2010 CWS will be holding our first ever career day. All grades will be participating in this full day event. We are still looking for volunteers to come and speak about their interesting carrers for the AM part of the day. If you know someone who would be interested, please email me: hollern@fultonschools.org, with a name and contact info such as email or phone number.
We are looking for any careers... such as community helpers, business careers, art careers, legal and council career, public safety, non-profit, or anything that would correspond with the curriculum of the students, etc.

4th and 5th graders are checking out ANALOGOUS COLORS! what is that?? They are any three colors side by side on the color wheel . For instance... red, orange and yellow. OR red, purple, and blue.

4th Grade is discovering what movement is in Art by looking at Georgia O'Keeffe's abstract art. They are making collaged pictures with analogous color tissue paper. They are looking fabulous!

5th Grade is making a two part analogous color birch tree painting. They also are doing a spectacular job!
